KWKY Radio has been bringing quality Catholic programming to Des Moines since December 8, 2006. Originally a country station, owner Chuck Putbrese changed the format to Christian talk radio after a fire devastated the studio. KWKY was the preeminent Christian talk radio station in Des Moines for decades.
After undergoing a personal conversion, Chuck Putbrese and his son John who owned the station felt a call to broadcast Catholic programming. Following a powerful visit to EWTN’s base of operations, they were convinced that they could bring Catholic radio to central Iowa.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Joe Teeling and a great many very generous donations, the pieces were all in place for KWKY to change formats.
Since changing format, KWKY has been not only broadcasting quality Catholic programs throughout central Iowa. We have also participated in bringing dozens of inspiring Catholic speakers to Des Moines. We’re also proud to host a weekly program featuring Bishop Richard Pates of the Des Moines Diocese.
We’ve heard countless stories of conversion and reversion that have come as a result of Catholic radio, and we’re grateful to all of those who have walked with us on our journey.
